Allahabad, officially known as Prayagraj, also known as Allahabad, is a metropolis in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarters of the Allahabad district—the most populous district in the state and the 13th most populous district in India—and the Allahabad division. Prayagraj is also famous worldwide for the Kumbh Mela, a holy religious gathering of Hindu pilgrims which also attracts many tourists and has been taking place in the city from ancient times.
